A Message to you Rudie... Epaulet and Bailey hats present an exclusive collaborative fedora - the "Rudie." Designed with a stingy 1 1/2" snap brim, classic 1960's crown, and slim grosgrain hat band, the Rudie is that perfect old-school fedora that can be worn with a suit & tie or a polo & denim. It's handmade in Pennsylvania of "LiteFelt" - a durable virgin wool that's "crushable" (it can be folded lengthwise) and Teflon-coated for water and stain resistance. A genuine peacock feather is included. The Rudie's easy-going shape makes it equally wearable for a seasoned hat collector or an absolute fedora virgin. As a collaborative design between Bailey and Epaulet, the Rudie is only available here.
Rude Boys Coined in the 1960's, the term "Rude Boy" was first associated with hardscrabble young men in Kingston, Jamaica. Listening to ska, rocksteady, and reggae, they dressed to emulate the famous soul musicians of the United States - wearing items such as sharp suits, skinny ties, and stingy fedoras. When this Jamaican culture and music was exported to the United Kingdom some years later, ska fans in Britain adopted these fashions themselves, and "Rude Boy" came to encapsulate all fans of the ska/rocksteady culture. Working with photos from the 60's and 70's, we commissioned this hat to look like something a lad in London or Trenchtown would have worn at the time. As such, we named it "Rudie" in their honor.
Epaulet co-founder Michael Kuhle sang (well, screamed off-key) in a ska band for four years, and has long searched for the perfect hat to compliment his suits. We hope that you'll dig the "Rudie" as much as he does!
Bailey's LiteFelt "LiteFelt" is an blend of 100% virgin wool fibers. Exclusive to Bailey, this material creates a hat that's both handsome and durable. It's "crushable" - meaning that the hat can be folded lengthwise, placed inside a bag, and it will pop back into the proper shape when you take it out. A light Teflon coating gives the hat water and stain resistance. And its pure wool fabrication lends a soft hand and an elegant, classic look.

Bailey Hats & Bollman Hat Co. Bailey began producing fine dress headwear in 1922, priding itself on founder George Bailey’s emphasis on the importance of a professionally crafted hat. Classic styles such as fedoras, godfathers and derby’s were engineered and popularized by Bailey in the 1920’s. These handsome hats were seen on silver screen icons like Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart. Bailey Hats are known for the craftsmanship of their product. Each piece is individually assembled in Adamstown, Pennsylvania for excellent durability and timeless sophistication. Bailey's parent company, the Bollman Hat Co, has been producing fine headwear for well over 100 years. They know a thing or two about blocking and shaping a proper fedora - and the "Rudie" is a prime example of their workmanship.
