A well-fitting, well-designed and equally handsome raincoat is an elusive, prized article.  It is often the goal of many frustrated searches and exhausting try-on sessions, but rarely is it ever attained. With our Epaulet x Mackintosh slim-fit Dowanhill raincoat, however, we think we may have chiseled away a hitherto uncut gem and developed an exceptional answer to your search.

This special edition Mackintosh coat is made from the same distinctive rubberized cotton fabric for which the brand is known, and finished with their equally famous and impenetrable seam-taping; yet we slimmed it down and gave a rakish interior liner, lending the wearer a more modern silhouette and inner attitude. With the Dowanhill, you can now have the gold-standard of rainwear without the old-fashioned look.

Made in Scotland

A bit about Mackintosh:
Mackintosh cloth has a distinctive heritage and functionality. Invented in 1823 by a chemist in Glasgow by the name of Charles Macintosh, this formal waterproof fabric, or “Mackintosh” cloth, as it was known as, forever changed the landscape of outdoor clothing.

The cloth was immediately recognized as superior to the other weather-blocking fabrics available of the age, primarily the oil-cloths which were ubiquitous at the time.  This new-fangled rubberized cloth was and still is produced by spreading liquid, natural rubber between two fabrics, which are then pressed together and heated. Coats made of this innovative fabric received great attention and much fanfare all over Britain, and it quickly became the coat of choice for horse riding and rain.

Later, the British Army adopted the Mackintosh as the coat of choice for World War I and II, as well as the overcoat uniform for the British Rail. “Mackintosh” is so
synonymous with functionality that people commonly use the name to refer generally to raincoats.

Measurements & Sizing
Note: All measurements are shown in inches. "Chest" is measured from one armpit seam to the other. "Sleeves" is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. "Shoulder" is measured from one shoulder seam to the other. "Length" is measured from the base of the rear collar to the bottom of the garment.

The Dowanhill has a very slim profile; if you intend to wear it over a sport coat, we recommend that you order one size up from what your typical jacket size. For example, if you take a 40 in the Weller- and most likely a Large in Epaulet Shirts - you'll want to order a 42 in the
Dowanhill; however, if you intend to wear Dowanhill only over a shirt or sweater, you can order your usual chest size.
