A bit about ikat: Ikat is a patterned textile created by a particular method of resist dyeing. “Resist” dyeing is a method of creating a dye pattern by purposely preventing the dye to access certain areas of the fabric, thereby creating an un-dyed portion, or ground, for the dyed pattern to lie in contrast to. What separates Ikat from other types of resist dyeing, e.g. tie-dye, is that ikat resist dyes the threads of a fabric, as opposed to fully woven fabrics. When all of the dyeing is finished and the bindings are removed, the threads are woven into cloth.
