We found it!
After an exhaustive hunt, we finally located the perfect basic v-neck sweater. This is an item that's often made, but rarely made well. Let me tell you why ours is so good.
First off, each sweater is knit from start to finish in Italy's venerable Ferrante factory. The fabric is a genuine 100% Australian merino wool - which adheres to their strict Woolmark standards of production. The fit is an original pattern from the 1960's. Like the rest of our collection, it's slim but not skinny. It has a classic ribbed bottom and cuffs. When worn, it has a great tailored fit that doesn't look too tight or forward. And crucially, it will hold up and keep its good looks through extensive wear and cleaning.
This subtle gray/blue color is amazingly rich and versatile. First, the sweater is knit in a natural, undyed wool. The entire finished garment is then dipped into a dye batch, resulting in a lovely navy color with a sight gray cast and very cool tone variations at the ribbing and main seams. Check out the detail photo of the neckline, and you can see the effect. This color is a exceptional compliment to wheat corduroys, gray flannel pants, brown tweeds, and khaki chinos.
Woolmark Superfine Merino Ferrante sweaters are knit with 100% virgin merino wool from Australia. In order to earn the Australian "Woolmark" tag, their facility and products underwent extensive quality and performance testing. Genuine Woolmark fibres and the garments made from them can retain their shape, colors, and fine hand through extensive wear and cleaning.
ABOUT FERRANTE KNITWEAR: Founded in 1950 by Amedeo Ferrante, Ferrante Knitwear occupies a 5000 square meter facility in San Giovanni Teatino - a small town close to Italy's Eastern coast on the Adriatic Sea. For the past 60 years, they've produced some of the finest knit textiles and garments in the world. This family business is now run by Amedeo's two sons, and maintains a strict adherence to quality and tradition.
MEASUREMENTS Note: All measurements are shown in inches. "Chest" is measured from one armpit seam to the other. "Sleeve" is measured from the collar to the cuff (it's very long because of the raglan shoulder design). Length is measured from the base of the rear collar to the bottom of the garment.
Overall, the piece fits very true to size - and is consistent with our shirts. If you take a medium in our shirts, then you'll take a medium in these. And the sizing corresponds with traditional mens chest sizing as such: Small = 36, Medium = 38, Large = 40, XLarge = 42-44

PICTURED FIT Model (6'2",170lb) wears size Medium. This garment fits true to size
