Epaulet Sewn by Hand footwear is our exclusive in-house brand. Each piece is handsewn and meticulously crafted in Maine of the finest leathers and materials.

The Waverly is our premier "full strap" penny loafer - so named for the slotted band of leather that runs across the face of the shoe. The upper is gorgeous Horween Black Chromexcel leather stitched to a handsome single-leather sole. This versatile style is easily dressed up or down and can be worn year-round. If the sole wears out, a cobbler can easily replace it. The toe is hand-stitched and a padded footbed runs along the interior. The leather is unlined.
and the sole edge is hand-stained.

The Waverly is our homage to the original Weejun style. That being said, we’ve updated the materials and given it a unique, more contemporary expression. All the details of the original are there: it's unlined and has no
side-stitch, and features a full strap, as opposed to a "beefrol,l" and stained sole edge. In addition to these old benchmarks, we’ve modernized the style by giving it a “blacked-out” matte-finish. We feel this gives the shoe just the right amount of attitude. You can wear them as confidently with a pair of selvedge jeans and a polo, as you can with a full suit. These very well might be the toughest pair of penny loafers out there.

CHROMEXCEL LEATHER
Chromexcel is produced by Horween Leather in Chicago, a family-run tannery that dates back to 1905. It's produced using a bark retannage from a proprietary recipe, and then genuine hot stuffed with a blend of natural oils and greases. The resulting "pull-up" leather yields a rich, deep finish with very subtle shade variations. It breaks in easily, shines up brilliantly, and is incredibly long-lasting.

SIZING
Epaulet Sewn by Hand shoes run generally true to size. However, as they feature handsewn moccasin construction, they will conform to your feet. It's important to consider how you'll wear them.

If you intend to mostly wear your shoes or boots with thin socks or barefoot, we'd recommend ordering 1/2 size down from your typical dress shoe size. This would be roughly equivalent to our sizing recommendations for the Alden Barrie & Tru-Balance lasts. So, if you typically wear a 10D in dress shoes, order a 9.5D. The majority of our customers choose to do this.

If you intend to wear your shoes or boots with substantial socks, then we recommend ordering true to size. This would be roughly equivalent to the Alden Leydon and Aberdeen lasts.
So, if you typically wear a 10D in dress shoes, order a 10D.
