Hand-crafted in Maine, Epaulet belts combine phenomenal materials with meticulous workmanship to yield a handsome and long-lasting item that gains character with wear and age.
Our "Single Prong" model measures 1.25" wide, which is an excellent all-around size for our chinos, trousers, and jeans. The solid brass buckle is silvertone with subtle antiquing. The keeper is handsewn with cream-toned waxed thread. This was designed to be an all-around basic item which can be worn day after day and year after year.
This particular belt is done in thick "Wooly Chromexcel." Produced by the Horween leather company, it's a thick, tough leather with a lustrous finish. It's a great match to chinos and denim, and could easily be worn with a dress trouser or suit if the occasion isn't too formal. It ties back nicely to our Epaulet Sewn by Hand footwear collection and it's a great match for the Alden Indy 403 boot or our Alden for Epaulet Officer's Indy boot. As with all the leather goods that we carry, you can expect this durable item to gain a wonderful patina with age. Despite its thickness and heft, it's fairly soft and feels broken in before you even wear it for the first time. It will sit nicely on your trousers without jutting out too far or feeling uncomfortable.
Please note: In order to preserve its natural character, this full-grain hide has not been buffed or corrected - so your belt may have small scratches or tone variations. It's all part of the charm of chromexcel leather goods. Look at the enlarged product image closely and you can see what we mean.
Sizing Epaulet belts have "Standard Belt Sizing," meaning that you need to order 1-2 inches larger than your typical pant size. So if you ordinarily wear a 32 or 33 pant, please order a 34 in the belts.
Chromexcel Leather Chromexcel is produced by Horween Leather in Chicago, a family-run tannery that dates back to 1905. It's produced using a bark retannage from a proprietary recipe, and then genuine hot stuffed with a blend of natural oils and greases. The resulting "pull-up" leather yields a rich, deep finish with very subtle shade variations. It breaks in easily, shines up brilliantly, and is incredibly long-lasting.
