     
Epaulet Sewn by Hand footwear is our exclusive in-house brand. Each piece is handsewn and meticulously crafted in Maine of the finest leathers and materials.
This is our unique adaptation of the traditional blue & white boat shoe. For the upper, we selected a rich navy Horween Chamois to give the shoe a distinctive matte look, slightly more rugged texture, and increased weather proofing. We’ve also given the Westport three eyelets as opposed to two, which we think gives the shoe a more secure and comfortable fit, as well as a more handsome profile. The Westport features a true 360° lacing system, whereby you can loop the front laces through the exposed laces running along the sides of the shoe so as to cinch the whole upper snugly around the ankle; this traditional manner of lacing allows for a superior fit and unmatched comfort, especially when not wearing socks.
Like all Epaulet Sewn by Hand footwear, the toe is hand-stitched and a padded footbed runs along the interior; and, if the sole wears out, a cobbler can easily replace it. This shoe is fully lined with soft glove calfskin.
HORWEEN CHAMOIS
Originally called "Oiled Nubuck," Chamois is a full-grain leather where the top layer is sanded down and given a full vegetable retannage and generous oiling. The finished product is soft and comfortable without sacrificing strength and durability. It breaks in immediately and maintains a handsome matte finish. It naturally resists dirt and stains, and the occasional brushing will easily keep it clean.
MOCCASIN CONSTRUCTION
Epaulet Sewn by Hand footwear uses genuine moccasin construction. With this, a continuous piece of leather forms a secure bond around your foot. It's an intricate process that requires extensive hand-labor and years of experience. But the result is well worth it. With true moccasin construction, the shoe can easily mold to the exact contours of your foot - yielding a final product that's extremely comfortable and satisfying to wear.
SIZING
Epaulet Sewn by Hand shoes run generally true to size. However, as they feature handsewn moccasin construction, they will conform to your feet. It's important to consider how you'll wear them.
If you intend to mostly wear your shoes or boots with thin socks or barefoot, we'd recommend ordering 1/2 size down from your typical dress shoe size. This would be roughly equivalent to our sizing recommendations for the Alden Barrie & Tru-Balance lasts. So, if you typically wear a 10D in dress shoes, order a 9.5D. The majority of our customers choose to do this.
If you intend to wear your shoes or boots with substantial socks, then we recommend ordering true to size. This would be roughly equivalent to the Alden Leydon and Aberdeen lasts. So, if you typically wear a 10D in dress shoes, order a 10D.
